What is the purpose of EMMF?
Episcopal
Medical Missions Foundation was established for the purpose of informing Episcopalians
of the activities of their medical mission stations and to encourage Episcopal
churches to organize and send medical and dental teams to Episcopal mission
sites in Honduras, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Nigeria and Uganda.
What is EMMF's role in medical mission?
EMMF
assists with the logistics of organizing and assembling the medical teams, the
transfer of medical supplies and equipment, and direct funding to provide food,
lodging, and transportation while in the foreign country. EMMF continually
maintains a log of physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, technologists,
dietitians, priests and translators in the hope that if complete teams cannot
be assembled locally, places can be found for medical personnel who want to go
on mission trips but have no church to sponsor them.
EMMF also informs and educates the Episcopal community about the good work being done in mission stations around the world and the current needs and accomplishments of those stations. EMMF also acts as a liason between the mission stations and Episcopal churches across the United States and abroad.
EMMF appeals primarily to individuals and churches to support their mission stations with their talents and contributions. EMMF support comes chiefly from the generosity of these individuals and congregations. EMMF desires to develop partnerships with churches' outreach groups and mission sites and special projects. EMMF does not solicit support that would detract from regular church budgets. EMMF does not receive any funding from the National Episcopal Church.
Annually, EMMF tries to identify all of the Episcopal churches that have and interest in medical missions. Each year EMMF receives requests for funding from these churches and endeavors to help them to make up in part those funds that they cannot raise locally to support their planned mission trip.
