PROPOSAL
It should be both global in
perspective and individual in its outreach.
1. A nursery school teacher living
among the Pygmies who would be involved in preparing the Pygmies for primary
school education.
2. A public health nurse, on site,
addressing the health needs of these Pygmies, assisting with immunizations, and
referring patients with more serious needs to appropriate facilities.
3. An agricultural advisor who would
assist the Pygmies. The Pygmies have problems growing an adequate amount of
agriculture to support themselves. They are not aware of some of the agricultural
techniques that have been used in Uganda for centuries, since they were a
hunter-gatherer society until fairly recently.
4. A clean, protected, and central
water supply with a hand pump to improve hygiene and crop irrigation.
5. Procurement of more land to grow
their crops.
6. On a more individual basis, the
bishop has a primary school nearby, which he envisions to educate approximately
sixty Pygmies per year. These Pygmies are very anxious to receive this quality
education, which is spiritual, vocational, and academic in its scope.
COSTS
1. Preschool teacher, $70.00 per month
per site.
2. Public health nurse, on site,
$70.00 per month per site.
3. Agricultural consultant, $70.00 per
month per site.
4. Central water supply, cost not
assessed at this time.
5. Land acquisition, $35 per acre,
additional 250 acres is desired.
6. The bishop’s primary school
education. A cost of $535.00 per Pygmy per year, which includes board, tuition,
and room.
